Synopsis:
Short+Sweet Malaysia with the support of The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), The Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) and The Actors Studio Malaysia, proudly presents the Festival Short+Sweet Malaysia 2015. The festival begins in Penang with Theatre in Stage 2, penangpac from the 26th August to the 29 August, and begins in Kuala Lumpur in Pentas 2, klpac from the 9th September to the 1st November.
Short+Sweet Malaysia premiered in 2008 and is the first long and competitive performing arts festival in the country. It started with only Theatre, then expanded its categories over the years with the addition of Dance, Musical, Stand-Up Comedy + Song, and another two new categories for this year, Short+Sweet Choral + Classic.
Short+Sweet Festival Malaysia aims at providing a professional platform for emerging and established stand-up comedians, singer-songwriters, composers, lyricists, musical directors, writers, directors, actors, choreographers and dancers to showcase their original ideas and talent; presenting their creative works under 10 minutes in a collaborative and fun environment.
Festival Director and Executive Producer Dato' Faridah Merican shares, "It's the eight year of celebrating the creativity of Malaysians up in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia has many untapped talent in the performing arts just waiting to be discovered, so we are delighted to be able to provide a platform for all the talented youngsters to excel their gift and to be appreciated for them to showcase their ideas. The audiences will also get a chance to experience fresh-faced performers and a different kind of festival like never before. The emergence of choral and classical talent in Malaysia cannot be ignored. Thus we are including these 2 genres this year!"
Short+Sweet Festival Malaysia is open to everyone (Malaysians and non-Malaysians), open to any genre and open to any language, not only English. It is designed for anyone who would like to spread out their wings of talent and get the feel of a real-life learning experience of stage performances. Workshops were held in March to create these 10 minute performances, facilitated by Joe Hasham OAM & Mark Beau de Silva for Playwriting, Acting & Directing, Lex Lakshman Balakrishnan for Choreography, and Nick Choo & Dominic Lucien Luk on How to Write a Ten-Minute Musical, Composing
10-Minute Musical, and How to Put it Together and Performing. The festival is perfect for all ages and for anyone who would like to experience a different kind of performing arts festival, wrapped up with creativity and diversity.
