Synopsis:
ANTIGONE by Sophokles and Anne Carson
When her dead brother is decreed a traitor and his body is left unburied beyond the city walls, Antigone refuses to accept this most severe of punishments. She defies her uncle – the new ruler of the city – and forges ahead with the funeral alone. Antigone places personal allegiance over politics and unleashes a cycle of destruction her city will never forget. Is she wrong?
This modern English translation of the Greek classic is adapted by MacArthur Fellow Anne Carson in collaboration with Tony Award nominee Ivo van Hove. It premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York last year.
Featuring Amanda Ang, Abdul Qahar Aqilah, Brian Chan, Dawn Cheong, Oliver Johanan, Alfred Loh, Claudia Low, Farah Rani, Gregory Sze and Andrew Wood. Scenic design by Zen Tan. Choreographed by Lex Lakshman Balakrishnan. Assistant directed and dramaturged by Marina Tan. Directed by Kelvin Wong.
Presented by The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat in collaboration with Theatresauce, a new collective founded to exhilarate and engage Malaysian audiences through edgy works of theatre. Theatresauce is driven by the spirit of Malaysian English-language theatre from the 80s and 90s, but speak the language of 2016.
